Loot, and lots of it!

Yesterday was a good day. I got to have a pint and a laugh with my good friend Jocke and I got a lot of nice toys for next to no money. The whole packet:

And in detail:

One StuG, a gift from fellow lardie Per.

One King Tiger, also from Per.

A bunch of Celts, a gift from Jocke.

And a number of 1940s French. I actually paid for these. ;-)
They are my first purchases from Early War Miniatures and they look great.

An LMG team
A 2-man radio team
A 5-man radio team

All in all a very good haul and even less need to buy anything at all during 2013. Not that this will stop me buying stuff, mind you.

LRDG 30CWT WIP 2

Would you like some vowels to go with your acronym soup?

I did a little work on the truck last night, not much but enough to see a difference. And I just enjoy playing with the camera on the new phone and that is all the reason I need.

The work I did was adding some more base coat, painting the seats and starting on the stowage. I also added a layer of shading by painting all folds and recesses with a darker colour. Looks pretty naff right now, but with a layer of high-lighting and at least one wash to even it out, I'm hopeful it might work.
And if it does not, I'll cover the bloody thing in pigment and make it look like it's been in a sand storm!

Back off the road again!

I have had some inspiration for starting up the LRDG project again. Both Jocke, Laffe and I lost or focus last year and the project fell by the wayside. Now we're back off the road and into the desert again.

And I just realised that doing the whole blog process from the new phone works. Sweet!

Battlefield - fully furnished

For a while, all Scandinavian Lardies games have featured a piano somewhere on the battlefield as a tribute to Mr Spielberg and all the inspiration he has provided us with. A lot of other furniture came in the same pack, called Blitzed Bits from Frontline Wargaming (thanks, Laffe) and I have been thinking about painting them up for years. I finally got around to doing some of them this week.

Yes, there is a rubber duck in the bath tub!

First SSU squad done!

My first SSU (that's Sino-Soviet Union) for Dust finished. A rather quick paint job to test what can be achieved with block painting and wash. Quite a lot, it turns out. Yes, I could do three tone shading, drybrushing etc and they would look better, since the figures are really nice, BUT I think they look fine enough as it is and they're done and I can move on to my next squad instead.

They are simply block painted and washed in Army Painter Dark shade. The only dry-brushing is on the base, a light grey dusting to bring out the detail in the rubble (pieces of Linka Bricks, cat litter and a smashed circuit board).

This squad is an Ohotniki, the standard SSU Rifle Squad.

Stretch goals for 2013

Requested by Jocke and inspired by Kickstarter, I hereby present a list of stretch goals for my hobbying during 2013. Last time I published pictures of the stuff I hope to paint during 2013. (The Dust minis are almost done and the bath tub and the sofa are finished, they will feature in an upcoming post about furniture.)

Here is my list of other hopes and dreams for the coming year.

I plan to keep next year rather frugal. I intend to buy some Dust minis because they are lovely, but mostly I intend to get stuff I already have painted so that I can use it!
OK, here is the dream. I'll split it into two lists, Build/Paint and Play. I will save these list and look at it again at the end of 2013...and probably cry.

 Build/Paint

1, I own a shopping bag full of LOTR minis that will be painted and put to use for Dux Gondorum.

2, I own a bunch of lovely 20mm WW2 metals from CP Models and TQD that will be painted and put to use for IABSM (and dare I dream, CoC?)

3, I own a bunch of 6mm ACW from Baccus that will be painted and used for both TSS and TCHAE, and they will be joined by some friends from Rapier.

4, I own a 1/72 Hanomag, a StuG, a King Tiger and a Flak36 kit. These will all be painted in winter colours.

5, the last bit of scenery I bought at Salute 2008 will be painted.

Gaming

1, Play at least one game using our new LRDG figures.

2, Play, or rather run, a Dux Gondorum campaign.

3, Play at least one game with my Free Polish paras.

4, Play at least on game with my 1940 French.

There, that should keep me busy for a year.

Edit: I forgot to mention that I will not only buy a new painting desk, I will also get started on the Shelfville project, thereby inspiring Chris and stunning Owen.
